Portrait Painting in OilsTraditional ArtPortrait Painting in Oils by AthanArt
Hello there, it's a great pleasure to share with you my thoughts and approach to portrait painting. Either you are a begginner, an intermediate or more advanced, I hope you find this article useful and inspiring to some degree. Besides, portraits seldom give us a break, right?
Defining Alla Prima
In this tutorial we will explore the alla prima approach. So, what is "alla prima"? Alla prima is an Italian term meaning at first attempt. In other words it's a direct, wet on wet painting method, using one layer of paint. If the scale allows it then the painting is done before the paint starts to dry. If it's a large painting then you're forced to paint it in parts in the same manner.
Now, this is one way to do it but it doesn't mean it's the only way or the best way to go with it.
But no matter our approach we have to be disciplined. So let's try some of that!
Log: An Earth Palette PaintingTraditional Art WeekLog: An Earth Palette Painting by Goodnight-Melbourne
Since 2014, I have contributed more than ten lengthy articles and tutorials for the keen readers who were passionate enough but clueless about their artistic hobby, and often simply for rebrushing your skills, or to show you another approach for what you were doing. Every article had its new readers and some old readers. I have been more than overwhelmed to notice that how many of you found my contributions helpful. I don’t get paid or become well-known for doing this, neither that I yearn for. It gives me a joy that I could teach somebody something. When I started painting out , there was nobody to help me out or to say that is wrong and this is right. I simply could not afford it. I learnt by good ol’ trial and error, seeing thousands of short demos of artists on YouTube and reading the books which I could buy; and I believe so many of you learned the same way. (Well kudos to all of those. Keep up. It’s the dedication
|Hi there! I'm Julianna and I am 17 years old. Let's just say that I've been drawing since I could pick up a pencil. That's something my mom always tells me. ^_^ I am a Senior in high school this school year, and I plan on taking more art classes. I love to draw(of course xD) read, write, and sing. I enjoy drawing people, though I tend to do more landscapes and random designs. I try to work on my drawings whenever I get the inspiration, and I hope I can make a wonderful story with my art and writing. ^_^|
